The end of the fog...?

So, our city has been socked in by fog for the past 21 days. Yup, 21 days. That's a lot of fog. And it's crazily thick fog - for most of those 21 days, we couldn't see the streetlights in front of our building, not to mention the huge trees right across the street. Out our windows has just been a wall of grey nothingness. Now, this town gets a lot of rain in the winter, but somehow rain doesn't feel nearly as oppressive as this fog. I was out for a run one day last week when the sun peeked through momentarily and I felt like I was having a religious experience! It just felt SO incredible I had to stop and stand there with the sun on my face for the few minutes it was there. And then it was gone. The fog been wreaking havoc on traffic, especially on our bridges when you're in the middle - you're coming from nowhere, heading into nothing and can't see anything on either side. Riding a bike is more-than-usually hazardous since visibility is always a problem when you're such a small vehicle but now even my 5 bright blinking helmet lights aren't enough!

Well, the CBC weather reporter just said today *should* be the last day of fog. There's finally wind & temperature changes arriving to stir it up a bit. I think I can actually see some mountaintops peeking out. I don't know, I might miss it. It's kind of cozy. And it certainly has created some incredible photographic opportunities, although I haven't managed to have my camera in the right place at the right time. Whoever took this picture did though - a lovely reminder that beauty can exist even within oppressive weather conditions!

Apparently when the fog leaves, the snow will be back... but that's another story!

it's been awhile...

Hi out there, internet-world. We've just reincarnated our blog... We started it in 2005 with the aim of keeping in touch with friends & family, but it sort of never stuck (one single solitary lonely lonely post. Let's see if this one lasts any longer!).

It's kind of a "good" time to start a new blog; Wife is embarking on a year-long journey through The Land of Clinical Training (aka "Being a Real Doctor" or "Working [just like normal people do]") and Husband is playing a supportive role (not unimportant! keeps wife fed, watered [...beered...] & only somewhat complainy!) while also writing Stuff for Newspapers and talking to lots of people about Cars, an activity he enjoys (most of the time) and for which they luckily pay him.

There's lots of other stuff too, but we'll save that for future posts, shall we?

Photos taken in December 2005, driving from Calgary to Nelson listening to Sarah McLachlan "Plastic" remixes.

At the bottom is a photo of airplanes outside the air museum in... I can't remember which small town outside of Calgary!

Finally - pictures from The Day We Got Engaged!

We drove about an hour from Mount Gambier (in South Australia, where Katie was doing a 4-week medical elective) to Beachport. It was chilly!

B wanted to write something on the beach but the water was having none of it!

Brendan drew a big heart in the sand and made Katie stand in the middle of it, and that's where he asked her if she'd marry him. And she said yes! And this picture was taken right after that.

Then we took lots of pictures...

Rivoli Bay, where we got engaged (but we called it Ravioli Bay, of course!)

Beachport won a Medium Sized Town!

The beach was gorgeous

We wandered around the point...

And found this incredible scene!

The sun came out so Katie decided to check the water... (still chilly!)

Brendan is also brave

We support each other!

The cloud and rock formations were pretty incredible

like this overhang

and this rocky toadstool

On our way back, we met a professional photographer putting together an ad for Beachport, so we got him to take our picture

We drove back to Mount Gambier via a crazy wind farm...

Huge 110m windmills stretching up into the blue, blue sky above cows and sheep below

All spinning, spinning...

And then we were home again.

It was a pretty perfect day...

Further adventures to follow!
